Spring on Shelter Island, The Pridwin Comes to Life

May 3rd, 2009

How quickly the season changed on Shelter Island with that blast of warm weather last weekend. The cherry trees are all in bloom. There is a distinct chill in the air coming off the bay, but that will change by Memorial Day weekend as the bay water temperature rises during the warm May days.

The Pridwin is coming back to life after its annual winter hibernation. The Pridwin team has begun to assemble and is already working on getting the hotel ready for our opening in mid May. Both Pridwin boats are in the water and ready to begin the season of fishing. More on that later…..

Returning guests will notice some changes at the hotel. First, when you drive up you will see immediately that during the off season the entire exterior of the Pridwin has been freshly painted. Also on the renovation list for this season are a number of new private bathrooms in the hotel rooms and fresh carpet for cottages C, D, E, F and G.

Already we’re looking toward a great spring season. Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner. And we are already making arrangements with our friends at the local vineyards, such as Bedell Cellars, to give Pridwin guests special tastings when they stop to visit the vineyards. Vineyard and farm-stand hopping is one of the greatest joys of North Fork life in the spring.
