June 6th, 2010
Every season offers an opportunity for improvements and updates. In recent years at the Pridwin we have focused attention on revamping the bar and dining room and resurfacing the pool (our crown jewel overlooking the bay).
Now on the approach to the 50th anniversary in 2012 of the Petry family operating the Pridwin Hotel, we are creating a master plan for improvements that will bring the Pridwin up-to-date while paying utmost respect to its unique architecture and character. Helping us is Glenn Gissler (GlennGisslerDesign.com) a New York City-based designer who has been a Pridwin guest and friend for many years.
Because Glenn has stayed at the Pridwin many times and experienced its variety of accommodations and has become increasingly interested in Shelter Island history, he has an incredibly strong and nuanced sense of the possibilities.
The Master Plan for the Pridwin encompasses the entire property—common spaces, rooms and cottages—and will be implemented over the next 2 years. For this season 2010, we will be focusing on updating the Pridwin Lobby with additional furnishings and flourishes that Glenn says will enhance it’s ‘living room character” and be more inviting for guests to lounge and relax. The Lobby will be ready for July 4th weekend. Please come by and check it out.
In a subsequent post we will interview Glenn Gissler so he can explain in his own words the plan for the Pridwin. Stay tuned…
