Back to the Pridwin’s Dining and Dancing Roots

June 27th, 2012

There is an old Pridwin sign in our archive that was a copy of many of the shield-shaped signs that greet new guests and passersby on our front lawn.  Underneath the “Pridwin Hotel” there was the phrase Dining and Dancing.

For decades the Pridwin has been known as a dining and dancing destination.  The words may not be on our present sign, but maybe they should be for this summer, because we are expanding our live music offerings.

Our Wednesday night cookouts are renowned for the big dance party afterwards.   Last year, we recognized that our piano was sitting a little too quietly in the Dining Room and so invited out  a great jazz pianist and singer, Champian Fulton, who simply energized the room with her beautiful voice and fantastic playing.   She plays solo at the Pridwin, but here she is with her quartet:

We are thrilled that Champian will return this summer for a number of engagements in August (13, 14, 19-21 and 26-28).

We are also thrilled to have engaged the man who has done the most on Shelter Island to keep the jazz flame burning brightly, Dennis Raffelock, who will host two evenings of jazz each week at the Pridwin.  On Tuesday (7-10 pm) he will lead a Jazz Jam session featuring some great players from the east end.  On Thursday nights (7-10 pm), Dennis will host a night of dancing to jazz and swing classics.    This is just like the old days at the Pridwin, when they’d roll up the rugs and throw some wax down on the floor and dance away into the night.

The Pridwin will also have some surprise musical guests and DJs thorughout the summer.    Follow us on Twitter and ‘like” us on Facebook for the breaking music updates.
